Hidden reviews on Google Business Profile are a problem for business owners. As a result, we lose valuable reviews that could build reputation and attract potential customers. Find out what might be causing reviews not to display on your listing and what you can do to prevent it.
How long does it take for a review to appear on Google?
Google does not specify exactly how long it takes for a review to appear on a Business Profile after it’s posted. Review publication can take from a few minutes to even a few days. Delays in this process often result from the need for verification, which is an assessment of the review’s compliance with platform guidelines. If Google does not publish a review due to a policy violation, the author may see the note Not published above their review.

Reasons for reviews not displaying on Google Business Profile
There can be several reasons why a review posted on Google is not visible. Below you will find the most common problems and their solutions (if any).
Violation of Google guidelines by the review author
Google sets detailed guidelines for review content. A review will not be published on the Profile if it contains:
- offensive, vulgar, or indecent content,
- personal or confidential information about other people,
- promotional content or SPAM,
- false information harming the company’s reputation
- conflict of interest (e.g., reviews posted by company employees).
If you know that a customer left you a review that complies with the guidelines, but it still didn’t appear on your listing, you can contact Google to clarify the matter. To do this, open your Business Profile Manager and select the option to contact support. Additionally, ask the customer for a screenshot of the invisible review content and confirmation that it was not published by Google. With such “evidence,” there’s a better chance of a positive resolution.
And if you have another problem – you’re struggling with unfair reviews on your listing, check out how to remove reviews from Google.

Automatic removal of reviews deemed suspicious
Google’s algorithms can detect suspicious patterns in reviews. This can lead to a review not being published. This happens, for example, in cases of:
- a large influx of reviews in a short time,
- several reviews posted from the same IP address,
- very similar content in different reviews,
- reviews containing keywords deemed suspicious by the algorithm.
The impact of reviews on brand image is invaluable, but never manipulate ratings to your advantage. Manipulation includes, for example, asking for mass reviews at the same time. If you notice that your customers’ reviews often don’t appear on your listing, report this problem by contacting Google Business Profile support.
Problems with the review author’s account
To answer why a review is not visible on Google, sometimes you need to look for the answer in the author’s account.
- Reviews written by new users with no activity history, or those who have posted many reviews in a short period, may be perceived by the algorithm as suspicious and consequently – unpublished.
- Another example is Google deeming a Local Guide account to be artificial, “with too much engagement.” This happens, for example, when a user publishes many reviews from one location at once without checking into the reviewed locations (Google can geolocate the user’s device). This can lead to the loss of all posted reviews and access to the Local Guide account.
Unfortunately, as a Business Profile owner, you have no control over this.
Review synchronization delays
Sometimes a review may be available on the listing in a browser, but still invisible in Google Maps. This happens due to data synchronization delays between systems. In such a case, you don’t need to do anything. Just wait a day or two for the reviews to appear in both places.
Deleted reviews from a restored Business Profile
Google sometimes removes reviews from suspended listings. If you notice that reviews are missing from your restored Google Business Profile, contact the support team. To do this, fill out the form at this link.
Are you the author of an invisible Google review? Find out what you can do.
If you are the author of an invisible review, you can check why Google didn’t publish it. To do this:
- Log in to your Google account.
- Enter the name of the business you reviewed into the search engine or find the Business Profile on Google Maps.
- On the business listing, you will see a box with the message Unfortunately, we cannot publish this content at the moment.
- Click See details and actions.
- Read the justification for the review not being published or being removed.
Sometimes Google also sends an email with the justification for its decision. If you believe your review does not violate the guidelines, but it was still not published, you can appeal by clicking the button below the justification. Once you do this, Google will re-examine the case and notify you of its decision via email.

Can disappearing reviews from Google Business Profile be prevented?
As a business owner, you cannot prevent a review from being unpublished on Google Business Profile if the reason for this action stems from the author’s negligence. However, you can ensure that your listing is working correctly, for example, by checking if you accidentally set your business’s opening date in the future, as in such a case, all reviews published before that date will not appear on the listing. Furthermore, although it is advisable to ask for reviews immediately after a customer interaction, do not conduct mass review collection campaigns, as such actions may appear suspicious to the algorithms of the American search engine. It’s better to collect fewer reviews at once but acquire them systematically. Instead of publishing 20 reviews in one day, it’s better to acquire 2 per day.

Why are reviews not visible on Google and what can be done to restore them? Summary
Hidden reviews on Google Business Profile disappear due to, among other things, guideline violations, detection of suspicious patterns by algorithms, problems with the commenting user’s account, and synchronization delays between systems. Authors of unpublished reviews can check the reason for non-publication and submit an appeal through their account. As a listing owner, you cannot restore reviews, but you can prevent them from disappearing by avoiding asking for mass reviews.
