Google Maps offers a range of features that facilitate managing your company’s online presence. One of these features is pins, which indicate your business’s operating location. Sometimes, however, the marker is in the wrong place, or the company simply changes the address of its headquarters or branch. In such cases, editing the location on the map is necessary. How do you move a pin on Google Maps and update the information in your Google Business Profile?
What are Pins on Google Maps?
Pins on Google Maps are pin-shaped markers that allow users to quickly locate a place, such as a company, institution, or service point. We can distinguish 2 types of markers:
- Google Business Profile pin – is linked to a Google listing and contains detailed company information, such as address, contact details, opening hours, photos, or user reviews. Such a pin is visible to all users and facilitates quick route planning to a given point;
- user pin – a temporary marker created by the user, which helps to mark a selected place on the map. It can serve as a landmark or a location we want to share with a friend. A user pin is private – only the user and those to whom it has been sent can see it.
Is a Google Maps Pin a Paid Feature?
Using pins on Google Maps, just like having a Google Business Profile itself, is completely free. Both business owners and individual users who have a Google account can use these free services.

Adding a Business Location Pin – Step by Step
The process of adding a pin is simple and occurs simultaneously with setting up your Google listing.
- Create a Profile according to the steps described in the article: how to set up a Google Business Profile?
- Add your business location by providing the exact address in the fields: Country/Region, Street and number, Postal code, City.

- Pin the location on the map – Google allows you to manually pin the location where your business is located.

- Verify the location – Google will ask you to verify your listing, for example, by means of a traditional postcard sent to the specified address or during a phone call.

Providing an Address on Your Google Listing – Best Practices
Google recommends that you provide the exact business address, consistent with the actual location (https://support.google.com/business/answer/2853879?hl=pl).
- Ensure that the address contains all required elements, such as street, building and unit number, as well as floor number (if applicable).
- If your business is located in an office building with multiple entrances, an industrial hall, or a hard-to-reach place, provide additional information to help customers reach the specific point. This could include, for example, descriptions of nearby intersections, landmarks, or information about additional entrances.
- If Google does not detect the correct address or the building number is missing, you can manually indicate your business’s location on the map.
Sometimes, even after providing a correct and precise address, Google shows a different location on the listing, for example, a nearby town “operating” under the same postal code. What can be done then? You should contact Google support.
How to Move a Pin on Google Maps?
Google allows you to change the pin’s position to match your business’s current location.
- Log in to your Business Profile.
- Select the Edit profile option, then Location.

- Click the pencil icon next to Business location and fill in the fields Street and number, Postal code and Locality according to the company’s current address firmy.

- Select the Adjust option and move the pin to the correct location on the map.

- Confirm changes by clicking Save.
The process of verifying the new location by Google can take from a few minutes to several business days. If the change is approved in the editor but the location does not update on the maps for several subsequent days, you need to contact Google support directly to resolve the issue. The new location will only be visible to all users after approval.

Changing the Pin’s Position – When Is It Necessary?
Correcting the business pin’s location is sometimes necessary in several cases:
- incorrect address assignment by Google – algorithms may incorrectly pinpoint a location in an office building, parking lot, on a nearby street, or in a building with multiple entrances;
- incorrect route to the company automatically determined by Google – sometimes Google shows an incorrect route because, for example, there is no information about a new road or a change in traffic organization (lane closure, etc.). In such a case, you should contact support and indicate the correct route;
- complicated address or non-standard location, e.g., halls, centers, office buildings with multiple companies;
- company relocation – the need to update the address and pin after changing headquarters;
- customer convenience – precise indication of the entrance, parking, or pick-up point.
Editing Your Business Location Pin – Summary
Pins on Google Maps are a practical tool for business owners, allowing them to mark the location of their headquarters on the map. Thanks to this, customers can easily find your company, quickly plan a route, and also share the location with others. The process of creating and editing a pin is very simple and intuitive. Just a few clicks are enough to update the address or change the marker’s position, while maintaining the accuracy of company data.
